“Old and mossy & fresh and new at once.
Great songs, great singing and playing all recorded beautifully.”

I’m threadbare, worn out too,
broken down, showin’ through--
Showin’ through
my love for you, Threadbare

A playful lyric from the album’s title track- this album is a bit of a throwback to the debut self-titled album released in 2009. A measured blend of folk, bluegrass, old-time, swing, and country-influenced tunes that make you dance, sing along, get drawn into the stories, or enjoy the dust that rises from some fantastic vocal and instrumental performances on each tune.

Discography

From traditional influences to electric and back, The band’s albums explore new territory, different players, different studios, and different textures all based around Bill’s award-winning songcraft, the undeniable back-of-the-beat groove and the combination of Bill’s dust-laden voice and Shelley’s clear lilting harmonies- these things define the unique sound of Honey Don’t.

Honey Don’t

The group’s debut self-titled album from 2009. A Folky, grassy collection of tunes co-produced with Ryan Drickey(fiddle) and Greg Schochet. This record almost cracked the top 20 of the AMA charts that year- quite a feat for a debut record from an unknown group from a tiny town on Colorado’s western slope. It still enjoys regular airplay on many of Colorado’s community radio stations. Recorded in Fort Collins Colorado with longtime pal Aaron Youngberg of Swingfingers studio engineering.

Heart Like a Wheel

Released in 2014 HLAW was self-produced with Bill recording and playing a lot of the instruments. This album was recorded over the course of a year at their home studio allowing all the time needed to realize the tunes. Like the first album, HLAW still leans on folk and bluegrass with fiddles, mandolins and banjos but includes drums, organ, lap steel, electric guitars and more production over all as well as guesting the great Ozark fiddler Betse Ellis on a couple tracks and some great studio musicians from Colorado’s front range adding just the right extra spices. Recorded in Paonia, Colorado ADD Studio and mixed at NFA in Denver, Colorado.

Threadbare

By the time of the release of Threadbare Bill Powers and Shelley Gray had been living in Bend, Oregon for 7 years. The album represents both a so-long to their long time home in Colorado and a big howdy to Oregon with a great cast of players from Bend and Sisters shining all over the recording. Many of the tunes on Threadbare have been on the band’s live set lists for some time- patiently waiting for their turn to be recorded. Covid allowed the time for the group to make it happen during the winter of 20/21. The instrumentation of the group- mainly the fiddle and dobro begged for another slew of grass leaning tunes and this record has the band returning to the folky/grassy approach of the debut album “Honey Don’t”.
